Bled Castle is not only an architectural gem – it is a historical symbol of Bled and one of the most visited landmarks in Slovenia. Perched high on a steep cliff 130 meters above Lake Bled, it offers unforgettable views of the lake with its island, the surrounding mountains, and the Upper Carniola region.

History dating back over a millennium
First mentioned in 1011, Bled Castle is the oldest preserved castle in Slovenia. In the past, it served as the residence of the bishops of Brixen and was primarily a fortress rather than a noble residence. Today, it houses a museum collection showcasing the history of Bled and the castle, medieval weaponry, a printing workshop, a wine cellar, and an herb garden.

How to get there?
You can reach the castle on foot via a well-maintained path with more than 200 steps, by car (parking available), or by bike. The walk through the forest path along the lake is a special experience, especially early in the morning or during the golden hour.
